James attended local schools, graduating from Lincoln High School. Shortly after graduation, James enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving two years in Europe during W.W. II. He was honorably discharged and returned home, settling in Indianapolis, where he attended Indianapolis Electronic School. Following graduation, he established a radio/television repair business providing service for Sharper and Gardner Electronics for over 30 years. He continued working as an independent business owner/operator, until retiring at age 72. James was proceeded in death by his parents, William and Liza Cole Harris, first wife; Marion Theresa and younger brother Edmond. He is survived by his wife, Carol Rhyne Harris, sisters; Mary M. Phelps and Flora J. Jackson, brother; William Harris Jr.(Virginia), step-children; Daren K. Owens(Brenda), Shannon D. Ward(Marc), Mark C. Owens(Taleena) and Colin S.(Charita) Carson. Other survivors include sister-in-law, Frances(Edmond)Harris and a host of nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. James was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church, where a Celebration of Life Mass will be held. Reception immediately following the service in Kavanaugh Hall, located in the church basement. Memorial contributions can be made to the donor's favorite charity in remembrance of Mr. Harris
